Karen Pearce

My work draws on the landscape surrounding my home town of Aberystwyth. I hope to convey, through painting, something of the feelings I associate with this place.
The meting of different elements such as rocks and water, town with sea, hills and sky, or the interplay of nature with man made structures like jetties and bridges offers me rich pictorial ideas and compositional possibilities.
I explore the effects of tone and colour combinations as suggested by the weather, different seasons or times of day. Each new painting is an opportunity to find out something new; the paint leads the way and I follow it, referring to my notes, drawings and photographs at some later stage, together with memory and imagination.
