‘I have found the many cities I have lived in and visited rich with patterns, and they have all, in differing ways, had a profound effect on my painting. Rather than focusing on the more obvious ‘landmarks’ associated with a particular place, my approach is one of investigating and drawing out patterns which seem to convey something of the essence of the place. My deep interest in the natural and architectural patterns which form part of our everyday world continues to prompt me to study and explore them and ultimately to develop them into new patterns of my own.’
