Seren Bell & Esther Tyson Saturday 14th June - Friday 4th July 2008
with sculpture from Sallie Wakley
A three-person show with an underlying wildlife theme. Seren's maticulous detailing and Esther's free flowing approach to painting will offer a wonderful contrast in the interpretation of the landscape that these two artists experience in their daily lives.
Of their work, they say:
When I am looking at a landscape I look at the weight, the shape and the movement. I also absorb the sound around me. All this in turn influences the marks that I make. I build up a vocabulary of marks which mean different things to me. Preciousness dominates my work in the early stages and frustrates me completely. After a time, the drawing takes over and I respond to my subject without complication. It is in this state that I become completely consumed - Esther Tyson
The drawings in this exhibition reflect some of the visits that I’ve made during the last year to North Wales where I love the slate fences and dark hills. In contrast, I’ve also done some stunning walks by the sea on the east coast of Scotland - full of light and bleached fields. As usual, I am still drawing the many varied sheep that I come across locally along with the extremely handsome beasts seen at agricultural shows. I spend a lot of time wandering about with my dogs and the landscape gets absorbed and remembered when I am drawing - Seren Bell |

Andrew Douglas-Forbes, Esther Tyson & Sallie Wakley Saturday 26th May - Friday 15th June 2007
This year Andrew & Sallie will be joined by Esther who is using the first quarter of 2007 to develop her work using oils for the first time whilst Andrew is going to concentrate more on observed subject matter rather than the atmostpheric interpretations he produces. We are hoping this gives a good balance between his impressionist approach to Esther's semi-abstract style. Complimenting the 2D work, Sallie's sculptures will also be evolving this year with some more stylized creatures in the mix.
We will also have a video installation of both Andrew & Esther working both in the field and at their studios.

Portrait of a Town Monday 4th July - Saturday 30th July 2005
An exhibition of paintings and sculpture reflecting life and scenes in and around the beautiful town of Llandeilo and the surrounding areas.
For this show we not only wanted to capture the area's scenery and the town's architecture in portrait but also some of the more prominent faces in the town. For this reason, Gillian Still (arguably the most well known person in Llandeilo) has sculpted 5 new porcelain portraits of prominent people outside their workplaces. Conversely, Gordon Stuart RCA, (holder of five paintings in the National Portrait Gallery and 2nd prize-winner at the recent Welsh Artist of the Year award) has painted two portraits of Gillian Still that should both be ready in time for the show. We also have fellow Royal Cambrian Academy painter, Christopher Hall RBA RCA, exhibiting work at the show.
Llandeilo is currently undergoing a regeneration of itself and this exhibition celebrates some of the many reasons why this west wales town has grown to be so popular amongst its inhabitants and its many returning visitors.

Gillian Still Retrospective Tuesday 20th April 2004 - Onwards
The next exhibition at Fountain Fine Art will be a retrospective look at the work of its founder, Gillian Still.
"For this special exhibition I have selected a collection of the most important pieces of my work, pieces which are particularly evocative of a time and style. The sculpture has been brought together from all over Britain and Europe and i'd like to thank those who have kindly lent it for this show. The exhibition includes new work of mine alongside paintings from Bob Brown, photographs by Paul Hamman and sculpture by Sallie Wakley. Bob travels all over the world painting and drawing. Painting consumes him. Paul, a superb photographer whose fastidious attention to detail reveals his subject. Sallie empathises with her subject so that every animal is a portrait. This exhibitionmarks a change in the life of the gallery. Ann and Michael Keen have been running it for three years and have introduced new artists and started a bookshop. Their tenure ends with the opening of this exhibition. At the end of this show, Richard Braine will take over." |
